Weight concept or piece concept?
Lufthansa uses the piece concept: your allowance is counted in bags (pieces), and each piece has its own weight and size limit. Two lighter bags are not automatically the same as one heavier bag — check the per-piece limit in the table below.
In plain terms
Reading the table from the cheapest fare up: with Economy Light / Economy Basic (short & medium-haul) you can check No free checked bag; first bag (23 kg, 158 cm total) available at a reduced price; with Economy you can check 1 bag up to 23 kg; with Premium Economy you can check 2 bags up to 23 kg each; with Business you can check 2 bags up to 32 kg each; with First you can check 3 bags up to 32 kg each. Anything beyond the line for your own fare is charged under the excess rules, so the fare you booked — not the one you nearly booked — is the one that decides what you pay at the desk.
