How to use these guides
Every entry on these pages is quoted or closely paraphrased from the airline's own official policy — the same source linked at the bottom of each airline guide. Start with your airline's standard allowance in the baggage checker, then check the special-item rule for the thing you are carrying: for many airlines the item simply counts as part of that allowance, while others sell a separate sports or special baggage product that is far cheaper when booked in advance. If a policy is silent about your exact item, the general sports-equipment or special-baggage rule is what check-in staff will apply.
