Good to know

Special items are the most common reason for surprise airport fees. The pattern across airlines: items that are part of your allowance travel free, items above it need a pre-booked sports/special allowance, and buying at the airport almost always costs more than pre-booking. Use the baggage checker for your airline's standard allowance first, then add the special-item rule from this page.

The near-universal pattern: a stroller or pram can be used right up to the gate and is then carried free, and most airlines add a small checked allowance for the infant even on hand-baggage-only fares — but the amounts differ, and a few low-cost fares include nothing for the baby at all. Check your airline's exact line above before you assume the stroller is free.
